Due to health challenges, Dan was receiving social assistance through ODSP. Although he was faced with multiple barriers to employment – including a 10-year gap in employment, recovering from mental health issues and addiction, and a criminal record – he was eager to re-enter the workforce. His ODSP caseworker referred Dan to the Agilec team to support him in his employment journey.
Once Dan connected with an Employment Consultant (EC) at Agilec, they began to build a plan that focused on boosting Dan’s confidence and employability. His EC supported Dan with resume development, job search strategies, and connected him to essential resources like a transit pass and a personal laptop to enhance his digital skills and access online job search tools and resources.
Recognizing his interest in warehouse work, it was recommended that Dan pursue forklift certification to expand his opportunities. Dan completed the training and soon after, applied for a position with a leading food supplier in Canada. His hard work paid off and he was offered a full-time, permanent Line Worker position.
With the right support, resources, and encouragement, barriers can be overcome and today, Dan is thriving in his new role. Reflecting on his experience with Agilec, he shared, “I would give you a 10-star review. You have been excellent to work with.”
