As a single mother for over eight years, Courtney had grown used to simply getting by – focused on her children and unsure of her own future. When she joined Agilec’s Employable YOU – a program designed to empower youth with employment skills, education, and work experience – she had limited prospects and little clarity about her next steps. What she did have was determination and a new support system behind her – and that made all the difference.
Through the program, Courtney discovered a wealth of transferable skills she hadn’t realized she possessed. With support and encouragement from the program, Courtney found the confidence to reflect on her passions and envision a new path, realizing her dream to build a career working with children.
Courtney faced her fears head-on, challenging herself to grow and step outside her comfort zone. Today, she is excelling in the Early Childhood Education program at Fanshawe College and is on track to graduate in the spring of 2026. She looks forward to a future in childcare and early development – a field that brings her joy and a deep sense of purpose.
Courtney is proud of how far she’s come, and deeply grateful for the transformation made possible through the Employable YOU program.

“My whole life has changed. I felt like I was at a dead end and there was no hope that I’d be able to return to school or enter the workforce in a way that was meaningful to me. I have been a single mom just trying to get by for over 8 years. Being able to pursue professional goals while raising my children is something I never thought possible. Now, I am doing just that and showing my children that we can do hard things and pursue our dreams.”
