In April 2025, Sheri connected with Agilec as an ODSP recipient – and she brought with her a powerful goal: to become a Personal Support Worker (PSW). After years of caring for her parents and other family members, she felt called to continue supporting others professionally, but wasn’t sure where to begin.
Working alongside her Agilec Employment Consultant, Sheri began building the foundation for her next chapter. Together, they explored her goals, identified the tools she needed, and developed a plan to start gaining experience. With mentoring, interview preparation, and confidence-building support, Sheri soon began working with three private clients.
A new opportunity then emerged through the Living Classroom – an innovative program offered by the Upper Grand District School Board. The program provides hands-on experience while participants earn their PSW certification.
Recognizing the perfect fit, Agilec assisted Sheri with the application process, including required forms and documentation. Sheri interviewed, was accepted, and officially began the program in September 2025. She is now completing a residency and is also hoping to begin working as a Nutritional Aide to build additional skills in a healthcare setting.
Sheri’s ambitions continue to grow. Inspired by the professionals she’s met through the Living Classroom, she is now working toward completing her high school diploma – with the long-term goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.
“Being 55 and knowing I can still do this gives me so much hope,” Sheri shared. “So many opportunities and doors have been opened for me through this experience. Thank you so much for everything you have all done to help me be successful for a much better future.”
Sheri’s journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, direction, and belief in what’s possible – new paths can open at any stage of life.
