What You Will Be a Part Of

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Peterborough is a feminist, abolitionist organization that believes in the liberation of women and gender-diverse people from oppression of all kinds.
We believe that systemic inequities driven by racism and colonialism, and their consequences, including poverty, violence, trauma, mental illness, and substance use, lead to criminalization.

You will be a part of a team who provide gender-responsive community supports for all people who have been, or are at risk of being, criminalized, while advocating for broader social change to prevent or provide alternatives to incarceration.

You will be joining our agency as part of the Justice Services team, and report to the Director of Services. The position includes providing front line services for verification of information and supervision associated with bail release in the Peterborough or Lindsay Criminal Courts. This includes providing support for Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on a weekly basis.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assess potential clients for program suitability
• Provide support, case management, and supervision required by release orders
• Provide appropriate community referrals for clients in the bail program
• Maintain and strengthen partnerships with other agencies present in the criminal courts
• Maintain and strengthen partnerships with court personnel: Judges, Justice of the Peace, Crown Attorneys, Duty Crown, Clerks, and Defense Lawyers
• Manage client records, track progress, and write reports associated with Bail releases.
• Enforce release conditions associated with an agreement made for bail release

Qualifications
• Education in a discipline related to the provision of Justice Programs (e.g., social worker, psychology, legal studies etc.) is an asset
• Demonstrated experience providing services to individuals with mental health issues, addiction, poverty, trauma, and abuse.
• Sound knowledge of the roles and functions of court personnel and knowledge of community resources
• Sound knowledge of all relevant legislation, regulations, and court procedures governing bail.
• Proven advocacy skills
