Each year many of us make great resolutions and set goals for ourselves yet, despite the best intentions, we often lack the focus in making those true shifts in our lives. Here are some steps to help you stay on track and make those resolutions a reality.

Create a vision
Carefully consider what you really want, make a list of your true values, talents, skills and deepest needs. Writing them down will help to clarify your intention which can help you monitor your success. Approach your resolutions in a positive way. Try to stick to one New Year goal so you are not bogged down by too many unattainable goals.

Build a plan
Identify what is standing between you and your vision. Set specific goals and target dates. Make sure these goals are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and has a Timetable. Using a planner, whether it’s on your phone, computer, or a journal book, allows you to track your activities and ensures that you accomplish your most important goals.

Accountability
Identify ways to hold yourself accountable for your plan, enlist a friend or family member to remind and encourage you. If you stumble, don’t beat yourself up, instead, move forward. Sometimes we get bogged down in serious deliberation, advising and problem solving.
