Financial Assistance

Better Jobs Ontario (BJO) is designed for Ontario residents who are unemployed or underemployed and need financial assistance to gain skills training for in-demand occupations

Financial assistance during skills training may be provided to individuals who are determined to be eligible and most suitable for skills training. Assistance may be provided to cover all or a portion of the cost of tuition and expenses. Assistance may also be provided to cover all or part of the incremental costs of participation in skills training, such as expenses relating to dependent care, disability needs, transportation, and accommodation.

Eligibility Requirements

Participants must:

  • Be a resident of Ontario
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (as an FYI – 900 series SINs are no longer eligible)
  • Have been laid-off and have not been working or are working a temporary job to cover costs, OR
  • Have not been laid-off but have been unemployed for 12 months or longer AND are part of a low-income household
