I get asked a lot if I use LinkedIn, and do I like it? And my answer has consistently been YES and YES. Why, you ask. Here are my top three reasons why.
- I’m not a keeper of paper and other items that verify the ‘what, where and when’ of my professional/work life. I have been trying my hardest to have an up to date and complete profile (hence when I export to PDF, my profile is running at around 6 pages as of today). LinkedIn lets me capture this information for future use!
- I can tell when I’m going to get a call to come in for an interview. 100% of the time, someone from the company has viewed my profile (even with the free account). This won’t be the case for everyone, but based on the jobs I have applied for, this is true. I’m 4 for 4 in the last 2 years. Just as an FYI, my applications also have a link to my LinkedIn profile readily available.
- I get to stay connected with people I used to work with and they can stay connected with me! I have been pretty lucky with my managers and co-workers, and I am happy to share a job lead, congratulate an accomplishment or just say ‘hi’ every now and then.
