I admit it. I’m a mouse-girl. I’m a mouse clicker. When I found myself without the use of an external mouse while using my laptop, I felt my impatience and frustration growing… until I remembered my keyboard shortcuts that I learned way back from our IT gurus! Here are a few keyboard shortcuts that have saved my sanity when I find myself mouse-less:
Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Insert
Both will copy the highlighted text or selected item.
Ctrl + V or Shift + Insert
Both will paste the text or object that’s in your clipboard.
Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Y
Ctrl + Z will undo any change. This can also often be pressed multiple times to undo multiple changes. Pressing Ctrl + Y would redo the undo.
Ctrl + F
Pressing these buttons opens the Find box in any program. This includes your Internet browser to find text on the page.
Ctrl + Back space and Ctrl + Left or Right arrow
This will delete a full word at a time instead of a single character; Holding down the Ctrl key while pressing the left or right arrow will move the cursor one word at a time.
Ctrl + S
While working on a document or file in most programs pressing these two buttons saves that file.
Ctrl + Home or Ctrl + End
Ctrl + Home will move the cursor to the beginning of the document and you guessed it, Ctrl + End will move the cursor to the end of a document.
Ctrl + P
Open a print preview of the current page or document being viewed.
