Turn the Tables on Hunger is back! People and organizations are at the core of what we do and in the month of June, Agilec team members gave back by participating in various activities and fundraisers to help battle hunger in our communities.

Here is a quick look at our teams in action:

AJAX

Team Ajax spent a day at St. Andrew’s Community Garden honouring Agilec’s commitment to Turning the Tables on Hunger. Their day started with planting veggies in barrels that will be situated at each of the Ajax Community Centres for all to enjoy. The team moved into the Pollinator Garden where the real hard work began – pulling thistles as tall as some of them 😊, shovelling mulch, and cleaning up weeds forming in the perennial gardens at the front of the Community Centre.

BARRIE

Our Barrie team hosted a Food Drive for our Annual Turn The Tables on Hunger.

With the donations from the community, they were able to collect over 6 carts of food for St. Vincent de Paul and the Barrie Native Friendship Center (BNFC). Additionally, a monetary donation of $48.30 was collected and given to the BNFC. It was a scorcher of a day but the smiles and gratitude that were shown and expressed upon receiving the donations is what it is all about.

Great job Barrie team – the food drive was a success and is really going to help individuals in our community!

BURK’S FALLS

Our team in Burk’s Falls did something a little different – they planted a vegetable garden at their office and will donate the yield to the local Foodbank at the end of the season.

We are all looking forward to seeing the crops grow!

FERGUS

Fergus Agilec staff helped out at a free community luncheon put on by Elora community group Feeding the Soul! They chopped, stirred, and simmered their way through the morning helping to prepare scrumptious soups, bread and cheese, and rhubarb-strawberry crumble. They then helped serve the food and prepare take-out meals to be delivered to community members who were unable to get out to enjoy the beautiful day.

Lunch was picnic style at the Elora Centre for the Arts and was savoured by the many folks who turned out for food and fellowship. Food for these events is donated from local businesses. The group also takes donations to help the cause. Lunches run 2x per month in Elora. All are welcome!

Our Fergus team is grateful to Feeding the Soul for this chance to serve the community and raise awareness of Agilec’s services in Fergus/Elora!

INNISFIL

The Innisfil team had a great day fundraising for The Innisfil Food Bank for the Turn the Tables on Hunger initiative this year. The team connected with the local Sobey’s grocery store and held a food drive that raised $275 and over 645 pounds (3-4 large bins) of food! What a great day had by all!

KITCHENER

The Kitchener team spent the day at Zehrs on Pioneer Drive collecting food and funds for the Full Bellies Happy Hearts campaign through The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

They had a great day interacting with people and handing out fun Agilec swag. Afterwards, the team brought all the donated food and funds directly over to The Food Bank.

In total they collected:

  • 535 lbs of food
  • $282.10

Which provides 1,321 meals!

MOUNT FOREST

Our team in Mount Forest held an event to raise funds for our local Community Pantry as part of our wider Turn the Tables on Hunger initiative. We’re excited to say that the event was a resounding success!

In partnership with Foodland, they were able to host a community cookout and BBQ some delicious burgers which were offered through donation. They set aside 3 hours for the cookout but ended up running out early after giving out 160 burgers and drinks! Through the event, they raised over $1000 for our Community Pantry!

The Community Pantry received the donation and were hugely appreciative of the efforts made by the Mount Forest team!

ORILLIA

Turn the Tables on Hunger was a great success for the Orillia Team! They set up at Foodland Orillia to collect food donations and invite the community to have some lemonade and take part in a toonie toss!
Special thanks to Orillia Fire staff for donating their time and Orillia Foodland to help support our community food banks!

PETERBOROUGH

Peterborough Agilec held a BBQ and Food Drive at Freshco. The Agilec team enthusiastically worked together to raise over $500! A big thank you to Agilec and the Peterborough team for making a difference in the lives of the Peterborough community.
