Set your sails for adventure as a Security Guard at the bustling Port of Halifax during cruise ship season. At Commissionaires Nova Scotia, we take pride in providing top-tier security services and extending a warm Nova Scotia welcome to visitors from across the globe. As we gear up for the 2024 cruise season, we are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team.

Becoming a cruise season Security Guard is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to be actively engaged on your feet, meeting and assisting visitors from around the world. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of passengers and terminal staff. You will also be the first point of contact for many visitors, representing Nova Scotia with warmth and hospitality. If you’re a customer service champion with a passion for interacting with people, this role offers a unique chance to make a positive impact on the experiences of those arriving in our province.

Based at the Port of Halifax your duties will include assisting passengers and terminal staff with wayfinding, access control, and other security needs. With both full-time and part-time seasonal positions available, you can tailor your commitment to suit your lifestyle while being a part of an essential operation during the peak cruise ship season from April to November.

In this role, you have the opportunity to work closely with our valued partners at Halifax Port Authority and cruise company staff. Duties include:

  • Respecting CNS policies, complying with the Marine Transportation Security Regulations and Site Work Instructions.

We’re looking for individuals who are professional with a strong work ethic and excellent customer service skills. You must be 19 years or older, eligible to work in Canada and be able to communicate effectively in English (the ability to work in both official languages would be considered an asset).

This is a job where physical fitness and mental alertness is required. Our Commissionaires need to be able to react calmly, quickly, and appropriately in any situation and you’ll have to manage long periods of time standing, be able to concentrate and remain alert for the length of your shift. As our Commissionaires are expected to patrol the Port you will need to be able to climb multiple flights of stairs with ease as well as display good dexterity and balance.

We support our people by investing in their training; all new Commissionaires will be expected to achieve our First Aid certification, as well as successfully complete the Commissionaires Security Officer Course.
