Food Preparation Specializations: Bakery goods and desserts, Stocks, soups and sauces, Eggs and dairy, Cold kitchen (salads, appetizers, sandwiches), Cereals, grains and pulses, Vegetables, fruits, nuts and mushrooms, Meat, Poultry, Pasta, Fish, Seafood, Pizza

Specific Skills: Plan menus, prepare attractive meals of the day and for upcoming meals, so that they can be served smoothly and on time. Ensure quality of food and determine size of food proportions, Work with minimal supervision; able to follow instructions easily. Inspect kitchens and food service areas; ensure food preparation areas, utensils and equipment are cleaned and made sanitary immediately after use; fridges and freezers organized on a daily basis. Maintain inventory and records of food supplies, fridge/freezer updates daily basis. Work with specialized cooking equipment (deep fryer, etc.), Clean kitchen and work areas, Wash dishes.

Job requirements:

Ability to work day shifts; days and weekends, creative ability, customer service, health and safety courses, physically fit, previous experience required, Food Safe Handling Certificate Certified, Protein Certified, WHMIS, adherence to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to position. Bondable, Extended Criminal Record Check

Qualifications: Experience 2 years or more; Speak English, Read English, Write English

Soft skills: Detail oriented, flexible and adaptable, friendly and personable, professional appearance and attitude, punctuality, strong teamwork skills, time management / organizational skills, works independently, works well under pressure

Pay:  $18.00 to start, after probation $20.00/hour

 

COVID-19 considerations:  Masks remain mandatory in the building; Health and safety of our tenants, community workers, visitors and staff are foremost. All guidelines set out by SMDHU and Government agencies are followed. Staff are supplied all PPE’s required for positions.  We are a senior apartment building but considered ‘high risk’ due to the age of our tenants.
